A former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has commented on the state of sports in Ghana, which has become a concern for the public.

He described the current state of sports in Ghana as being in disarray, attributing this to the poor performance of various teams in tournaments.

The former minister pointed out that the challenges facing Ghanaian football, including the Black Stars, began in 2014 due to poor management.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Afriyie Ankrah stressed the need for authorities to implement measures to revive Ghanaian football.

"The state of sports is in shambles. I'm not the one saying it; don't you know? It may be hard to believe, especially with football, but the roots of the problem started in 2014," he said in Twi when asked about the current state of sports in the country.

The poor performance of various teams and athletes has raised concerns about the management of sports in Ghana.

The Black Stars have struggled to maintain consistent performance, failing to secure a win in two matches for the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The athletics team also failed to win a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, adding to the woes of Ghanaian sports.

It remains to be seen how various sporting agencies will respond to restore the former glory of Ghanaian sports.
