Dreams FC striker Abel Manomey has advised local-based Ghanaian players to start planning for life after football especially at a time when the country’s football sector has been hit with many inconsistencies in the last 3 years.

The 2019-20 season was cancelled by the Ghana FA as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This means there hasn’t been a completion of a single football season in the last three years.

Manomey is one of few local players who have taken their life off the pitch to another level by taking their education seriously.

He recently graduated from the University of Education, Winneba after taking a break from the game to further his education.

He told Kumasi-based Y FM in an interview, “I think this is the beautiful time, domestic league footballers must reflect on their future. For 3 years football in Ghana has not been consistent”.

“At the age of 40 is like death for footballers that is life after football that is when it begins. So I want to urge all players to have a plan B of their life,” he said.

“They can engage, if they want to become coaches this is the time they can enroll, they shouldn’t wait to finish their careers before they enroll.

“I will also encourage them to add education to it. Education around the sports field, there are so many avenues, there are sports management, physiotherapy, and these universities are ready to enroll them.

“The universities are ready to enroll players so that they can represent them in the Ghana University games. So I want to beg them that they should have a plan B about the future.

“Because there is life after football, and they should keep on hoping that just like the tortoise’s journey, we will by all means get to our destination,” Manomey noted.
