Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey could return to training for Atletico Madrid in the coming days and has been excluded from the Rojiblancos squad for the trip to play PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old underwent a scan at Majadahonda's Fremap Clinic on February 9 for a suspected thigh problem which caused him to pull out of training.

Partey has not been able to train with Diego Simone's side but is close to returning from training.

"I've not yet recovered but I'm close to coming back [maybe a week or less] and it could be more," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Atleti's Argentine manager Simeone would have included the former Tema Youth midfielder in his squad for the trip to the Netherlands to play Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.

But, the injury forced him to draw his plans without the promising Ghanaian.

The dynamic midfielder who has had loan spells at Almeria and Real Mallorca has made 13 appearances in 2015-16 and scored two goals, including the winner in Atletico's 1-0 victory over Levante last month.

This means the lanky midfielder is still without game time in the Uefa Champions League despite making a bench appearance against Kazakhstan side Astana in the group stages of the competition last November.
