Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is revelling in the moment, having helped Atletico Madrid to win the Europa League.
The 24-year-old went into the history books as he became the first Ghanaian player to lift the Europa League following Atletico’s 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille in the final played on Wednesday.
A double from Antione Griezmann and another from Gabi were enough to see Diego Simeone’s side win a first European trophy since 2011.
Partey, who came on as a second-half substitute, could not hide his joy after lifting his first trophy with the Rojiblancos.
The Black Stars enforcer took to Twitter to post a picture which he was holding the Europa League trophy, accompanied by a thank you message to God.
Partey simply wrote: “Thanks to the Almighty God.”
The Ghanaian has seen his stock rise since moving to the Madrid club as a teenager in 2013. He has also been influential for the Black Stars in the last few years.
