Three Blackbombers Enroute To Pakistan

Three (3) Boxers and a Coach of the National Amateur Boxing Team on Monday, 19th December, 2011 departed Ghana for Islamabad-Pakistan to participate in the 2nd Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Tournament scheduled for 20th – 30th December, 2011.

The Team’s participation in the tournament is being sponsored (cost of airfare, accommodation/feeding) by the Pakistan Boxing Federation as a result of an exhaustive discussion between the Federation’s President, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo and stake holders of the Pakistan Boxing Federation during the AIBA World Boxing Championships as the former sought to develop a bilateral sports relation between the two countries.

The Boxers, Duke Micah, Michael Offei Dodoo and Azumah Mohammed will be competing in the Light Fly (49Kg), Light Weight (60KG) and Light Welter (64KG) weight categories respectively.

The Tournament comes at an opportune time as the experience to be gained there-in by the boxers will be crucial to their preparations ahead of the Africa Olympic qualifier scheduled for 27th April – 6th May, 2012 in Casablanca-Morocco.

Our Boxers have the talent and potential to compete on the international stage; what they need is the motivation, right exposure and requisite technical knowledge-particularly in the AIBA new scoring system, thus the importance of this tournament.

The Team led by Coach, George Thunder Ayeh departed the Kotoka International Airport at 12:15hrs.

Present at the Airport to bid the Team farewell were the Federation’s 1st Vice President, Mr. Iddi Sumaila and Secretary General, Mr. Dominic Kankam.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Team will arrive in Islamabad on 21st December 2011 and return to Ghana on 1st January, 2012.
