Accra (Greater Accra), 15 Jan., The French Government is to invite three Ghanaians with a good knowledge of the French language and culture to spend two weeks in France during the period of the world cup. The three, two students and a French Teacher, will be selected through an examination to be conducted soon by the French Embassy in Ghana in second cycle and tertiary institutions. Mr. Didier Ferrand, French Ambassador in Ghana told a press conference in his residence last night that the results of the examination would be announced in Accra during the Francophone week in March. The Winners, who will stay in France from June 30 to July 15, will not only attend some of the world cup matches but also tour the regions where the matches will be played and take part in cultural activities. Mr. Ferrand said even though Ghana did not qualify to play in the competition he is sure Ghanaians would follow the unique event with great interest. Mr.. Kwabena Kyere, a deputy minister of education called on students to take the study of the French language seriously and thanked the French government for the award. He said the nation still has soccer talents and "I am confident that Ghana will go to the next world cup". A total of 64 matches will be played in the 32-team world cup, scheduled from June 10 to July 12 in France this year. Among those present were Dr. Ibn Chambas, also a deputy minister of education and Professor Patrick Addy, a deputy minister of youth and sports.
