Tiero eyeing Benfica scalp in Portugal

Ghanaian star William Kwa bena Tiero is back in action for
his Portuguese top flight side Gil Vicente and the 31 year old is raring to go.
Tiero, who previously shown in Portugal for Academica before
switching to Al Quadisiya in Saudi Arabia, has returned to the European country
again, this time for Gil Vicente.
Gil Vicente players and officials have been impressed with
his addition, but after starring in two matches, amid putting up
man-of-the-match performances, injury struck which took the Ghanaian out for
two weeks.
Tiero however has returned again and helped Gil Vicente to
away success against Gondomar in the Portuguese Cup on Saturday and Tiero is
already looking forward to the next league game against Benfica.
“I’m delighted to have recovered this early and I’m also
happy about today’s win. I played so I’m ok and we are playing next week
against Benfica in the championship so we are going to get back to train in
anticipation of a tough game,” Tiero told 90 MINUTES from his Portugal base on
Saturday night.
He scored a cracker against Benfica during his days with
Academica that he still rates as the greatest goal of his career and the Ghanaian
is relishing another go at the former European champions. “Of course it will be
very nice to score against Benfica again because I always have fond memories of
that goal,” Tiero said.
The player who has expressed interest in a national team
comeback, is also congratulating Kwesi Appiah and his Black Stars for qualifying
for the next Africa Cup of Nations: “Congratulations to the Black Stars for
beating Malawi to qualify, they have done well.”
He continued: “Now we have to go and win the Africa Cup and I
trust Coach Kwesi Appiah to do it. I’m ever ready to help so he can call on me
anytime and I will be available at once.”
