Ahmed Tijani of the Ghana Navy walked ahead of a competitive field of nine to win the third Greater Accra Meet over 5,000 metres walk held at the Accra Sports Stadium last Tuesday.
Tijani, who recently won a highly competitive 30km racewalking event in Holland, emerged champion ahead of a field of nine competitiors to finish in a time of 23 mins 48:25 seconds.
Stanley Brimah who came second finished in 24mins :42:36 seconds but still holds the best record over the distance this year when he clocked 22mins :00:00 over 5km.
Abraham Kumi of Accra completed the distance in 25:54:78 seconds to clinch the third positions while John Segbe, Prince Frimpong, Agyei Boateng, Robert Anim, Atta Bright and Benjamin Annan finished in that order. The first three walkers were presented with prizes.
The walk was organised by C.A.L.L TRUCK & FIELD FOUNDATION and sponsored by VITA MALT, TECHNONET GHANA LTD, DATABANK, ROSTON PRO LTD, DEZINE FOCUS and the GATEWAY SERVICES LTD.
24 Keep Fit Clubs spread around the Greater Accra Region took part including EL-Wak Keep Fit Club, Duncans, Osu Ebenezer, Achimota and Dansoman Keep Fit Club.
WALKING TECHNICAL TEAM FOR NIGERIA
The executives of the VISCO WALKING CLUB have sent a technical team to Nigeria in connection with the upcoming All Africa Games.The agenda for the trip was not disclosed but a source hinted that they were going to interact with their Nigerian counterparts, in readiness towards upcoming competitions.
The team was made up of Messrs. Elorm Togo, Peter Amoah, Akoto, Ahmed Tijani Sani and the ace walker Vincent Asumang.
