Timothy Fosu-Mensah praised after solid start to Manchester United career

Highly-rated young Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is becoming quite the popular figure among those who follow the academy closely.

The Dutch youngster turned 17 today and joined the club on deadline day in the summer but the move for the teenager was swept under the carpet given moves for Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao were being pushed through at the same time.

The former Ajax man came to United’s attention during the AEGON Future Cup whilst playing for the Dutch giants and has progressed well with Paul McGuinness’ U18 squad this season.

The teenager has been in good form during his early months. We highlighted his excellent Old Trafford debut and several fans have voiced their positive opinions on the player on Reddit recently.

‘Get used to seeing this name’ is how one fan summed up Fosu-Mensah’s early few months at the club and also described the defender as one of the most ‘complete players in the youth structure’ at United.

Another follower of the player’s progress compared the defender’s move to that of Paul Pogba and even dropped a comparison to club captain Wayne Rooney in the equation.

“This signing has a very “Paul Pogba” feel to it for me. One of the highest rated youngsters in the continent, lots of clubs are interested, and we snatch him. This guy is a physical beast for his age, but has that rare mix which makes youth players stand out even more than that; he is smart on the ball, technically gifted and displays a great attitude on the pitch. You can tell that this guy breathes football, by just watching him play. Sort of like how you see that Wayne Rooney loves football.”

At the turn of his 17th birthday, it is unlikely fans will see him in the first-team just yet but if his talent is there it won’t be long given Louis van Gaal’s faith in youth players at times this season.
