Toney to defend Commonwealth Title

Accra, Oct 19, GNA - James "Hot Ice" Toney will defend his Commonwealth Boxing (CBC) Middleweight title in December this year. Toney will put up his defence of the title against Scot Dan of England on December 9, in London.

Information reaching the GNA Sports reveals that the boxer was nearly stripped of his title by the CBC at their recent General Meeting but for the intervention of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

The Ghanaian who won the title last year had exhausted the six-month grace period for champions and was expected to go into a mandatory defence of the title after that period but failed to do so. Toney, currently based in the United States of America (USA) is expected in London early December for the fight.

According to the information, the Ghanaian boxer stands the risk of losing the title should he fail to put up a defence. Toney is also the holder of the World Boxing Council (WBC) International Middleweight title.
