Tonight's GFA/PLB Awards: Who wins what?

Berekum Chelsea prodigy Kofi Owusu will this evening go neck-to-neck with Wa All Stars shot-stopper Richard Ofori and skipper of league winners Ashantigold’s Eric Opoku for the 2014/15 Footballer of the Season award at this evening’s GFA/PLB Awards ceremony at the plush La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

Owusu, who was the goal king at the just ended First Capital Plus Premier League is heavily tipped to carry home the star prize of the 10th edition of the awards which brings a closure to the league season.

The night will witness a royal touch of class with the presence of the Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, taking his seat as the special guest of honour with the Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr. Ernest Thompson chairing the ceremony.

Instituted to reward and recognize players, officials and clubs who excelled in the league season, this edition will see Lawrence Lartey of Ashantigold, Baba Mensah of Inter Allies and Ahmed Adams of Asante Kotoko vying for the defender of the season award.

The goalkeeper category will be between MTN FA. Cup winner Muntari Tagoe of Medeama, Richard Ofori of Wa All Stars and Felix Annan of WAFA while the most promising player of the season will have Gideon Waja of WAFA, Latif Blessing of Liberty Professionals and Latif Anabila of New Edubiase United.

League winner Bashir Hayford of Obuasi Ashantigold will come under strong challenge from John Kila of WAFA and Aduana Stars coach Kwabena Ameyaw for the coach of the season award.

After winning the league title, Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold, Kudjoe Fianoo, will be hoping to wrap up the season with the best CEO of the season but the likes of Delali Eric Senayah of Inter Allies and Albert Commey Aryeetey of Aduana Stars will be looking to thwart his dreams.

Other awards on the night will be the referee of the season which will be contested between class one referee Fred Andoh and FIFA referees Seidu Bomison and William Agbovi, FIFA assistant referee Dawoud Ouedrago, class one referee James Osafo and Richard Appiah will vie for the best assistant referee of the season.

Deputy PLB boss Ashford Tettey Oku will have a stiff challenge from Messr Arthur Dadzie and C.W Okai for the best match commissioner of the season, PLB camera personnel of the season will be between Ohene Adjei Praise, Dora Antwi and Samed Abubakari whiles Inter Allies, WAFA and Medeama SC battling for the fair play team of the season award, with supporters of WAFA, Inter Allies and AshantiGold gunning for the best behaved supporter group of the season.

The ceremony which will be the last official assignment of the out going PLB boss Mr Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah as he takes a bow from the board, will see the PLB give special awards to two distinguished employees of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for their immense contribution to the development of football in the country.

The two, Mr. Mamah Mustapha who has served as the grounds man at the Accra Sports Stadium for the past 27 years and Basiga Issahaku who has done same at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the past 17 years, will receive a special citation among other goodies.
