Deputy General Secretary in-charge of Football and Development at the Confederation of Africa Football, Tony Baffoe will turn down an invitation to be part of the yet-to-be-formed Normalization Committee that will oversee Ghana football from now till 31st March 2019, , his close friend Augustine Arhinful has said.

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), CAF and the government of Ghana are expected to announce a joint committee that will run Ghana football from now till March 31st 2019 following the dissolution of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

Ahead of the naming of the composition of the committee, FIFA on Wednesday announced the mandate and tasks of the committee which includes, running GFA’s daily affairs and cooperating with the special task force once it has been set up by FIFA, CAF and the Government of Ghana. The ad-hoc committee will review the GFA statutes to ensure compliance with the requirements of FIFA and CAF, particularly article 15 of the FIFA Statutes.

The committee is also expected to conduct elections of a GFA Executive Committee on the basis of the revised GFA statutes.

Former Ghana international, Tony Baffoe who has gained worldwide recognition for his role as a FIFA match coordinator and President of the Ghana division of the Professional Footballers Association has been rumoured to be one of the people who could be called upon by the government to serve on the committee.

But speaking in a yet-to-be-aired edition of Sports Check on GhanaWeb TV, Augustine Arhinful intimated that Tony Baffoe is not interested in being a member of the committee.

“ I have said on a platform that not because we played the game means we can come in and do a very good job but some of us can also come in. Tony Baffoe I know his stand. He is not interested in that position. I don’t know if tomorrow he will change his mind. He is content with wherever he is. If tomorrow he changes his mind then fine but the immediate one is what I’m telling you. I’m sure someone else is interested”, he said.

The former Black Stars striker failed to confirm his interest in the committee but expressed his readiness to contribute to the reformation of Ghana football in any capacity.

“I’m not saying I’m interested but I’m here to help out if I’m called upon because we all seek to improve on what we have here”, Arhinful told GhanaWeb Sports editor, Daniel Oduro.
