Tony Baffoe to be crowned SWAG Personality of the year – Report

The 42nd edition of the most cherished sports award ceremony in Africa MTN-SWAG Awards Night will be held this Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Banquet Hall of the state house in Accra.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana will be rewarding deserving sportsmen and women for their contribution towards national development in the area of sports.

As the spirit behind the award postulate, over twenty-five awards will be conferred on deserving sports personalities in different categories come Saturday at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.

According to sports24ghana.com, former Black Stars defender and the founder of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe is expected to win the most prestigious award on the night – The Sports Personality of the Year.

The Sports Personality of the Year category is a straight battle between Emmanuel ‘The Game Boy’ Tagoe and former Black Stars defender and now FIFA and CAF coordinator, Anthony Baffoe.

Still undefeated, Emmanuel Tagoe opened the newly built Bukom Boxing Arena with a unanimous decision [120-106], [120-106], [120-106] victory over South African Mzonke Fana to clinch the IBO lightweight world title.

With 16 caps for the senior national team of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe retired from international football after the Tunisia 1994 African Cup of Nations.

He has occupied and played various roles for both the Federation of International Football Association [FIFA] as well as the Confederation of African Football [CAF].

Mr. Baffoe also founded the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana which is the local wing of the FIFPro.

Again, Anthony Baffoe is a FIFA Ambassador for campaign against racism and he exhibited it recently when Sulley Muntari was racially abused during a Serie A match involving Pescara and Cagliari.
