Former Leeds United hitman, Tony Yeboah has expressed regret at the sudden demise of former Leeds United team-mate Gary Speed, who was found dead at his home after apparently committing suicide on Sunday morning.

In a moving 90 MINUTES interview with the former Black Stars striker, Yeboah said he was shocked as much as he was stunned at the terrible news. “Gary was a very calm person so when I heard the news I couldn’t believe it. He was a family man hardly drank and was always focused on the game.”

“ I spoke recently with Gary who wondered why I wasn’t frequenting Europe like I used to and explained to him that I had some business to take care of in Ghana.”

Yeboah, who enjoyed a very close relationship with the Wales coach and Gary McAllister both on and off the pitch, said he still can’t come to terms with the shocking news.

“It’s difficult to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Gary’s death and I’m still yet to take it all in. But I guess we should give everything to God who knows best.”

My condolences go to his wife Louise and family at this difficult period,” Yeboah, who was near to tears added to 90 MINUTES.

The former Leeds, Everton, Newcastle and Bolton midfielder was found hanged at his home in Chester yesterday morning. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 42 year-old’s death.
