Torgah wins Ghana Open Golf Championship

Tema, May 4, GNA - Francis Torgah returned a gross score of 225 to win this year's Ghana Amateur's Open Golf Championship which ended at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday. Francis Akafo followed at the second position with 226 gross, Kofi Tettedzi took the third position with 227 gross, while George Osei placed fourth with 228 gross.

The Ladies event was won by Grace Afriyie with 248 gross, Mona Myles-Lamptey placed second with 252 gross, Kyoung Hwa Kim took the third position with 262 gross while Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong came fourth with 276 gross.

In the Category Two Division, L. Norris came first with 262 gross, William Yeboah placed second with 266 gross while Benee Tagboto took the third position with 272 gross, beating George Ntsiful on count-back.

The three-day 54-Hole event, which was opened to amateur golfers

throughout the country, was sponsored by Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited. Professor George Ntsiful, President of the Ghana Golf Association thanked the Bank for sponsoring the event and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the sport in the country. He also appealed for sponsorship to enable the Association train junior golfers in the country.

Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, Marketing Manager of the Bank gave the assurance that they would continue to support the Association to develop the sport.
