Tsito Awudome Secondary emerge champions of Inter-school sports

Ho, Mar 14, GNA - Tsito Awudome Secondary School (AWUSCO) exhibited outstanding performance and dominated in most of the seven events to win both the boys and girls athletics competitions during the Volta Regional Central Zone Inter-School Sports Festival, which ended at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday.

16 second-cycle schools from the Ho District competed in athletics, cross-country, table tennis, basketball, handball, volleyball and football during the weeklong festival which ended at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Awucso scored 162 points to carry the boys athletics trophy followed by Mawuli School with 86 points and Kpedze Secondary School third with 59.

In the Girls division Awusco came first with 94 points followed by Taviefe Secondary School with 77 points while Kpedze Secondary School placed third with 68 points.

Awusco also swept the first three positions in the boys' 7.5 kilometre cross country race won by Master Rowland Tetteh in a time of 24.55 minutes, Mark Awalime came second with 26.43 minutes and Dzifa Abbey placed third with 26.58 minutes.

Miss Comfort Obidie of Avatime Secondary School won the girls' 4.5 kilometres cross country race with a time of 24.08 minutes followed by Miss Patience Tordzro of Kpesco with 24.25 minutes and Edith Dzakpah of Awusco placing third with a time of 24.39 minutes.

Awusco were on target to win the girls' volleyball finals however the finals of the boys volley ball match between Mawuli School and Awusco was aborted due to crowd violence.

The finals of boys' soccer match was also won by Awusco when they pummelled Saint Prosper's College 3-0 while Dzolo Sectech placed third. Mawuko Girls won the girls' soccer event while Awusco placed second with the third position going to Sokode Sectech.

Mawuli, Kpesco and Tsito Sectech placed first, second and third in the boys' handball event with the girls of Kpesco, Tsito Sectech and Mawuli School placing first, second and third respectively.

Mawuli School won the Boys' Basketball followed by Awusco while Tsito Sec-tech placed third.

In the Girls' Basketball competition, Awusco came first while Mawuli School and OLA Girls secondary schools placed second and third respectively.

Tsito Sec-Tech. won the Table Tennis competition followed by Sokode Sec -Tech with Awusco coming third in the boys' segment, while OLA, Taviefe and Mawuko placed first, second and third in the girls encounter.

In her closing remarks, Miss Doris Afari, Secretary of the Central Zone said about 152 students who have distinguished themselves in the various disciplines have been selected to represent the Zone at the Inter-Zonal Sports Championship scheduled for Kpando between March 21 to 28, this year.

She urged those selected to be disciplined, dedicated and determined to train hard to win the impending sports fiesta.

Miss Afari urged students who have the inclination towards sports to take advantage of the re-introduction of scholarships and bursaries to enable them excel in their disciplines.
