The Ghana Under 18 basketball team currently playing in the Afro Basket continental tournament in Maputo, Mozambique continue to impress as they won their second match on the roll last Monday.
The Ghanaian lads came back from an earlier Mali defeat to beat their Rwandan counterparts by 48 to 43 baskets.
The win against Rwanda makes it their second win of the tournament after they had earlier defeated a strong Tunisian side in their first match.
The Malians defeated Ghana by 47 to 43 baskets, indicating a very tough match. It was the Ghanaians who to the game to their opponents by winning the first two quarters by 9-11 and 11-15 thereby entering the half-time with a 6-point lead (20-26).
The Malians however came back after the break stronger than they left and by the end of the third quarter, were only one point behind the Ghanaians (32-33). The fourth quarter became the deciding factor as both teams enjoyed possession but it was the Malians who prevailed, thanks to Mamadou Traore who scored 12 points in the second half alone.
Mali’s victory over Ghana makes it their second win out of three games. Ghana is playing as a representative of Afro Basket zone 3 after they have been drawn as a wild card following their silver-winning feat in Cote D’Ivoire last April.
The winner of the Maputo tournament will represent the continent at the world tournament to be played
