The Upper West regional bi-annual sports festival which is scheduled to take off on Sunday may see some schools withdraw as their students do not have a place to sleep.
The participating schools from various districts in the region arrived in Jirapa on Saturday only to realize that the host schools, St. Francis Girls and Jirapa Senior High Schools have refused to close their schools in order to host the games.
This development forced the students to lie on their mattresses in the open though it is in the rainy season coupled with an unpredictable weather.
Information available to Starr News indicates that, though it is time for the two schools to host the event which is aimed at selecting a team to represent the region at the national event later this year, authorities in the two host schools refused to give their students midterm holidays in order to provide space for the visiting sports students .
This is compelling some schools to consider withdrawing from the games.
Officials of the Ghana Education Service are yet to comment on the development.
