The Uruguayan Federation used Luis Suarez's infamous handball against Ghana at the 2010 World Cup to pay tribute to the legend as he retires from international football.

Uruguay, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), posted a video of the incident with the caption: "Nothing will be the same without him."

Luis Suarez commented on the post with an emoji depicting a nostalgic feeling about the iconic moment.

Suarez announced his retirement from international football ahead of Uruguayโ€™s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

The game will be his last in Uruguay colours. He is Uruguay's all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 142 appearances. He made his debut against Colombia in February 2007.

The match, played 14 years ago, produced one of the most heartbreaking moments for Ghanaians and, to a large extent, Africans. Ghana, having stared at a historic semi-final, eventually crashed out of the competition, losing on penalties.
