Valenciennes confirm Waris capture

French Ligue 1 side Valenciennes have confirmed the signing of Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris on a six-month loan deal.

A statement on the club’s website read: “The striker Abdul Majeed Waris has officially become player of VAFC on Thursday evening. He will bring his speed and power to the Valenciennes attack line.”

The 22-year-old joins Les Antheniens from Russian side Spartak Moscow where he had limited playing time.

He managed only 11 league appearances and scored one goal for the first half of the season.

Waris wants to play more and remain fully fit for the 2014 Brazil World Cup finals.

Valenciennes are currently 18th in Ligue 1 – three points away from safety after the first half of the season.
