Vincent Torgah and 23 others qualify for next stage of PGA

Defending champion Vincent Torgah and 23 others have qualified to the final stage of the ongoing Gold Fields Professional Golfers Association (PGA) golf championship at the Damang Golf Course, Western Region.

The final 24 golfers, who made it to the next stage of the competition will battle it out for honors on Saturday for the prize money of GHC 125,000.00 at stake.

Leading the qualified group is Sunday Joseph Odegha from Nigeria with 142 points after two days of golfing and is closely followed by Ghana’s Victor Brave Mensah also with 143 points.

The others who qualified out of the 50 participants include Theophilus Govinus, Emos Korblah, Kojo Barni, Stephen Klah, Godwin Sai, David Doe and Jackson Chichi.

The others are, Emmanuel Osei, John Mawuli, Anthony Gbenyor, Martin Odoh, Lucky Ayisah, Philip Paitey, Richard Kouakou, John Amuzu, Francis Torgah, Robert Degbe and Vincent Coffie.

The rest are, George Osei, Solomon Harvey and Francois Agbavon.

The competition, which is being held for the second time, began last Wednesday and is expected to end on December 5 and the defending champion is in strong contention to retain the title.

In a related development, about 36 amateur golfers will also begin their battle for supremacy Saturday at the same venue.

Connell Mining, who are supporting Gold Fields to sponsor the Championship, expressed their interest in partnering with the headline sponsors to contribute in promoting golf locally and internationally.

He said his outfit appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with Gold Fields to support the 2015 PGA Championship with professional golfers from Nigeria, Cameroon, Togo Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Sierra Leone and Senegal.

This year’s championship is sponsored by Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Stellar Logistics, Connell Mining, Real Mining Supply, Esco, ATS and Bilal Company.
