Volta Region to establish a football project

Ho, Jan. 31, GNA - Volta Region is to benefit from modern facilities for training soccer talents under a project by Nachtman Football Academy of Germany.

Officials from the Academy, the biggest in Europe and credited with nurturing high profile international soccer stars are in Ghana on talent hunt.

Those to be selected would be enrolled in the Academy in Germany and nurtured for recruitment into football clubs in Europe. The project was initiated by Mrs Olivia Sosu, former Volta Regional Director of Education and Reverend Ben Kuma-Kpo Chairman of Volta Development Association and National Co-ordinator of the Project. Togbe Cephas Kosi Bansah, Gbi Development Chief is the German Liaison. Mr Jurgen Nachtmann, Chairman of the Academy gave the hint when addressing a group of young footballers in the Volta Region at Ho Sports Stadium.

He said the Academy would make Ho, its operational base in the country.

Mr Nachtmann reminded them that its premium requirement was discipline coupled with hard work and gave the assurance that those to be selected would have the best training facilities and should not be afraid of any acts of racism, adding, "I like Ghana, Ghana has nice players".

He said FIFA rules would apply in recruiting the selected footballers to the Academy while their parents and lawyers would be involved in all transactions.

Mrs Sosu said the project resulted from an idea which came to her while in service to find ways to help young sporting talents to develop them as means of livelihood. She said pupils and students were endowed with different talents other than academic and must be assisted to nurture them into great professionals in various fields. 31 Jan. 09
