The management of Voltic mineral water has presented 150 T shirts to the Visco Walking Club as its contribution towards the clubs preparation for this year World Walking Cup, slated for 1st and 2nd May, 2004 in Naumburg Germany. The presentation was made by Mr. Paul Arthur, marketing manager of Voltic Ghana Limited in-charge of Western and Central regions. He indicated that his company has been supporting in the development of walking in Ghana and this happens to be one of such gestures. Madam Sarah Nyarkoh who received the items on behalf of the walkers thanked the company and hinted that the T shirts would be sold at a cost of 30,000 cedis to the general public.
Meanwhile the selected team of walkers Ghana will be represented in the 50k by Kofi Ali, Thomas Quaicoo, Jeandy Kwofie, Eugene Snyper and Vincent Asumang. Those to make it in the women's 20k are Jacqueline Bludo and Sarah Nyarko.20k men Ahmed Tijani Sanni,Atta Bright, Benjamin Annan, Eric Nuamah, Stanley Brimah the official include James Khofi Tuah, Miss Mary Brew and one official from the Ghana Athletics Association paid a courtesy call on the managing directors of Savoy and Biriwa Beach Hotels, Hexagon Guest House, Municipal Chief Executive and the regional coordinating council.
Honourable Muniru Arafat the Cape Coast Municipal Chief Executive, thanked all the drivers of Cape Coast for cooperating with the walkers as they trained along the roads. There are times when roads are even blocked to enable them compete yet no bad incident occurred. He added that now that there is a walking academy in cape Coast, people will be trouping in to train from both local and international sources. Drivers should therefore be mindful of this and treat sportsmen with respect on the roads.Mr. Sammy Dekowski, the managing director of Savoy Hotel promised the walkers of a surprise package on their return. Meanwhile all the walkers have left for Accra after receiving walking shoes and tubes of Elephant Ointment as well as products from Energizer for a final brush up to the World Cup.
