Laryea Kingston’s assistant coaches, Jacob Nettey and Nana Agyemang, will take charge of the Black Starlets’ 2024 WAFU U17 Cup of Nations third-place playoff match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

This decision came after the former Ghana international resigned from his role as head coach following the team's elimination from the ongoing competition in Accra at the semifinal stage on Saturday evening.

The Black Starlets conceded two goals due to poor defending, resulting in a 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the semifinals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Following the match, Laryea announced during his press conference that he had made the decision to leave his role months ago.

The Ghana Football Association has now released a statement stating that his assistants will take charge of the remaining game in the tournament.

"The Ghana Football Association has taken note of the decision of the Head Coach of the National U17 Team, the Black Starlets, Laryea Kingston, to leave the team following his behaviour after the WAFU Zone B U17 qualifier semifinal match against Burkina Faso on May 25, 2024," the statement said.

"For the third-place playoff match between Ghana and Nigeria scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the current Assistant Coaches will take charge with support from the Technical Director of the GFA."

The defeat means Ghana will not qualify for the U17 AFCON for a third successive time.
