Wa, Jan. 21, GNA - There was general air of jubilation by almost every able body person, young and old, men, women and children as they poured unto every available space in the Wa Municipality to celebrate Black Stars victory over the Syli Nationale of Guinea inn the opening match of the African Cup of Nations on Sunday.
The 90th minute Sulley Mutari's strike generated a spontaneous outburst of jubilation from all sections and corners of the Municipality and within a trickle of an eye the streets were choked with euphoric supporters of the Stars after the referee brought proceedings to an end. Some of the jubilants were seen on their motorcycles exhibiting their skills, truck pushers pushing their carts filled with children with cyclists and pedestrians dressed in the national colours as they took over the streets with onlookers admiring the show by clapping their hands in appreciation.
It was, however, the young ladies, dressed neatly in the national colours who added colour to the festivities as they danced deep into the night who stole the show.
A young lady who gave her name as Miltida described the game as good but urged the players to die a little for the nation. "The Coach should also select the right players to win the remaining matches for us," she pleaded.
Earlier in the day, people in the districts, especially pito bar operators had decorated their spots with the national colours as they enjoyed brisk patronage from clients.
Rural communities also took part in the jubilation. At Busa near Wa, the inhabitants poured into their playing grounds and danced throughout the day in appreciation of the victory. Most of the Jubilants the GNA Sports talked to wished the Stars well in their group and called on all Ghanaians to give the team the needed moral support to Africa.
