Wakaso, Gyan sidelined for Mozambique clash

Ghana will be without Asamoah Gyan and Mubarak Wakaso in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying second leg fixture with Mozambique on Sunday.

The Black Stars arrived in Maputo on Friday without the duo who have been battling various injuries in recent times.

Captain Asamoah Gyan pulled out of Wednesday’s training ahead of the team’s 3-1 first leg win while Wakaso was withdrawn in the second-half of the encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium after suffering a relapse.

The Black Stars could face more injury woes as uncertainty hangs over the fitness of Frank Acheampong, who was stretchered off at half-time on Thursday, John Boye, who was replaced by Daniel Amartey following a knock, as well as Christian Atsu.

The trio, however, travelled with the team to Mozambique.

“I don’t like to take injured players into football games, I take only players who can play,” coach Avram Grant told the FA’s communication team.

“Even with that, we took three players who have question marks, and we don’t even know if they can play. We need to analyse them and see.

“The medical team is doing everything necessary. We’ll see at the training...how they feel and hope they will be fit.”

Ghana picked all nine available points from three games so far in Group H of the qualifiers.
