Wakaso will be missed - Konadu

Black Stars assistant Coach, Maxwell Konadu says banned Wakaso Mubarak will be missed when Ghana face Niger in a Group B wrap up in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

Wakaso will be missing the game Ghana must win to stay at the summit of the group through card accumulation and Konadu believes the player who scored the Stars' only goal against Mali' absence could be telling.

Konadu told the media on Friday in Port Elizabeth that “we will miss him. But there are other players who can play in his position. We hope he will return soon”.

On who is likely to be assigned the responsibility of executing set pieces in the absence of the Espanyol midfielder, Konadu insisted Kwadwo Asamoah and to an extent, Albert Adomah have the capacity to fill that void.

“Before Wakaso joined this team, Asamoah was taking them for us. Now, even Adomah too takes some.”

He said the technical team has reached an advanced stage in their decision on who will replace the midfielder on Monday.

Meanwhile, the player is expected to undergo a scan later Friday to be able to ascertain the level of the injury that prevented him from traveling the full hull in the game against Mali.

Wakaso, making his debut at the biannual meeting has been one of the Stars brightest spot in both two group games played so far.

He is expected to take back a starting role when he returns in the Stars quarter final meeting next week.
