Waris thrilled with French Ligue 1 debut goal

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris feels delighted with his goal on his French Ligue 1 debut and has promised to rake in more to save Valenciennes from the red zone.

The 22-year-old who moved from Spartak Moscow to the Valenciennes last week, crowned his debut for Les Athéniens with a 54th minute strike at the Stade du Hainaut to help them down visiting Bastia 3-2.

Before grabbing his debut goal of the Ligue 1, the Black Stars goal-maker had set up Mathieu Dossevi for their second in the 35th minute.

“I feel extremely glad that I scored what eventually became the match winner for my side. My job is to score goals and I’m very happy I did it yesterday. I know if I work hard enough, there will be more to come,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com exclusively.

He then took to twitter to express gratitude to the Valenciennes fans for their support during the game.

“Great game yesterday. Thanks to the fans for their great support,” he tweeted.

Waris picked up a through-pass from Dossevi and veered forward to slot a left-footed ball past the Bastia keeper to make it 3-0.
