National team star, Abdul Majeed Waris stand to end a memorable 2012 with yet another accolade after earning three nominations for alma matter, Right to Dream (RtD) Academy’s own Goal of the year award. Waris is one of over 15 RtD graduates pursuing professional careers in Europe but there are many other football players playing in US Colleges and elsewhere across the world by the renowned Academy located at Akrade in Eastern Ghana providing sports, education and leadership to otherwise underprivileged talents.
So it has that come this Friday at the academy’s campus, 15 goals scored by RtD players all over the world, including even internally, in the year under review will compete for the best goal gong at the 2012 achievements’ celebrations.
Waris who enjoyed a tremendous year powering BK Hacken to a runner-up finish in Sweden’s top flight league on the back of his 23 goals and earning a place in the Ghana national team to boot, will compete against among them the goals of also Sweden based David Accam, Godsway Donyoh, Divine Naah, Thomas Agyepong, Evans Mensah, Abdul Ganiyu, Bismark Boateng and Sirdic Adjei Grant.
Waris has three of his goals nominated including one of five he scored in one match against IFK Norrkoping to set a Ghanaian record in Europe.
