Black Stars forward Ernest Nuamah scored his first-ever Europa League goal on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Lyon’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
With Frankfurt aiming to equal a record 18 matches unbeaten in the UEL, they wasted no time in making their presence felt. The Germans struck first in the 18th minute and looked set to maintain their unbeaten run.
However, the French side ensured they went into the break level on goals. Just nine minutes after the restart, Lyon turned the game on its head. Malick Fofana scored the second, and four minutes later, Nuamah curled a brilliant ball into the top left corner in a trademark finish to put Lyon 3-1 ahead.
The goal was Nuamah’s first of the season and his first in the Europa League. Nuamah now has two goal contributions in the competition this season, having already registered one assist.
Although Frankfurt managed to pull one back, courtesy of an Omar Marmoush strike, Lyon held on to secure the victory and move into the automatic qualification spot in the standings.
For Nuamah, this goal will be a confidence booster as he seeks to find his feet in a team he joined a season ago, with many expecting so much from him.
