Memphis Depay hit a brace on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, to help Corinthians cruise to a 3-0 victory over Bahia in the Serie A Betano in Brazil.
With Corinthians needing a win to secure their place in the qualification phase of the Copa Libertadores, it was the former Barcelona man who inspired his team to victory.
Depay scored in the 12th and 63rd minutes, but it was the latter goal that caught the eye of the fans.
After Corinthians went up by two goals, the 2017 Brazilian champions had the opportunity to put the game to bed when they were awarded a free kick just inches outside the penalty box.
Depay stepped up to take it, and despite the challenging angle, he managed to strike the ball perfectly, hitting the underside of the crossbar and sending it into the net, causing the home fans to erupt in celebration.
The goal was the Dutchman’s sixth in ten league appearances since leaving Atlético to join Corinthians.
