Bankroller of Division 1 side, Alhaji Karim Grusah, was spotted at the official unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as the running mate for flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in Kumasi.

Grusah was seen exchanging pleasantries with some executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the event held at the Menhyia Palace on Tuesday, July 9, 2023.

The National Executive Committee of the NPP officially confirmed NAPO as the running mate on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been a Member of Parliament for Manhyia South since 2009 and has held various ministerial positions, currently serving as the Energy Minister.

Grusah joins former Asante Kotoko coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng as football personalities who have been involved in the NPP's running mates announcement and unveiling.

Opeele, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), believes that NAPO's appointment has shifted the balance in their favour ahead of the 2024 general elections.

"The NPP stronghold is the Ashanti Region. It has been 16 years since the region saw one of its own closer to the presidency," he wrote.

"Dr. Bawumia choosing NAPO can GINGER ASHANTI VOTERS on December 7th, that is, if NAPO is able to use his ROYAL CULT FIGURE to INSPIRE THEM!" he wrote.
