The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their opening fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Palancas Negras became the first country to defeat the Black Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium, ending their 24-year unbeaten run.

Milson delivered Angola's first three points in the qualifiers, winning the game for the visitors with a last-minute goal, sending the home fans into despair.

The pitch was terrible, making it difficult for either team to move the ball as easily as they would have liked.

Nonetheless, Ghana were the better side in the first half, creating half-chances but could not find the right opening to break the deadlock.

In the second half, Angola stepped up although the Black Stars still looked superior. Mohammed Kudus almost gave Ghana the lead with a right-foot shot, but his effort was cleared off the line.

Along with Kudus' chance, Antoine Semenyo and Fatawu Issahaku saw their goal-bound efforts saved by goalkeeper Neblu, who had a fantastic night.

Angola stole the win during additional time after substitute Depu went past his marker before sending in a low cross which fell in the path of Milson to tap in following a poor clearance by Abdul Mumin.

The Central African side avenged their heartbreaking 1-0 loss suffered during their last visit and moved to the top of the group, tied on points with Sudan.

Ghana will face Niger in their second fixture while Angola takes on Sudan, with both games slated for Monday, September 9, 2025.
