Watch how Benjamin Azamati and Rasheed Saminu raced in the Men’s 100-metre Heats

Ghanaian sprinters: Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, have qualified to compete in the Men’s 100-metre race semi-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Benjamin Azamati, who is competing in his second Olympic Games, finished second in Heat One with a time of 10.08 seconds to qualify for the semifinals.

His heat was won by the world’s fastest man this year, Kishane Thompson, who clocked a time of 10.00 seconds.

Soon after Azamati, his fellow Ghanaian compatriot Rasheed Saminu also took to the track in Heat 5.

Saminu had a good start but finished third with a time of 10.06 seconds to secure a place in the semifinals.

Nigeria's Kayinsola Ajayi, who raced to a time of 10.02 seconds, and Italy’s Marcel Jacobs, who finished with a time of 10.05 seconds, took first and second places, respectively.

With Saminu's third-place finish and Azamati's second-place finish, both Ghanaians have earned automatic spots in the semifinals.

The two athletes will return to the track for the semifinals on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 18:00 GMT.

Azamati and Saminu are also part of Ghana’s men’s 4×100 metre relay team, which will compete on August 8.
