To avoid being trolled by his church members and friends for his team’s embarrassing defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League, Olusola Osunmakinde, the Senior Pastor of the Household of David Church, cautioned them against discussing football and its related matters.
Pastor Olusola Osunmakinde, before offering the benediction prayer during a church service, a day after Chelsea suffered a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Arsenal, joked that he had received spiritual direction to admonish his congregants against discussing anything related to football.
He playfully urged the audience to focus more on bread-and-butter issues and leave football matters to those who play the game.
“This is a very important warning which must be taken as a spiritual warning. When they share the grace, let nobody talk to me about football. Life is very serious and we must be serious.
“One of my friends in America sent me a message last night 'Pastor, good evening' and that kind of message is very evil. I’m seeing one of our leaders wearing an Arsenal jersey. We have many important things and we are fasting for the next few days so we should not talk football. We should talk about winning souls and the kingdom of God."
On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Chelsea suffered their heaviest defeat at the hands of rivals Arsenal in the Premier League.
Belgian winger, Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal the lead four minutes into the game before second-half goals from Kai Havertz (2) and Ben White (2) completed the trouncing.
Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Partey contributed immensely to the victory, earning praise from Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta for his impact on the game.
