Former Black Stars player Nii Odartey Lamptey, in an effort to give back to football after a successful career, constructed a standardized training facility and established an academy called Glow Lamp Soccer Academy in Cape Coast.

The training facility features three natural grass pitches and a housing unit for players and coaching staff.

The housing units include designated areas for pre-season teams or visiting clubs, as well as separate units for the academy players.

Although the facility was fully completed in 2011, it was first utilized during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Ghana.

Odartey Lamptey mentioned that two pitches were completed during the initial phase, which served as training grounds for Nigeria, Liberia, and Mali.

"During CAN 2008, the teams did not camp here but used the facility for training. We had discussions with the Local Organizing Committee and the Football Association about it. I had finished two pitches by then," he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah during an interview on YouTube.

Since its completion, the project has welcomed various Ghanaian clubs for pre-season camps, such as Hearts of Oak, Inter Allies, Bibiani Gold Stars, and others.

During the 2023 African Games in Ghana, Nigeria's female U-20 team stayed at the facility.
