Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has labelled the 1986 World Cup as his favourite memory in the competition's history because it was the first tournament he watched on TV, and he saw Maradona.

Diego Maradona led Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986, delivering mesmerizing performances.

He scored five goals, provided five assists, and was involved in over half of Argentina's shots. Maradona set records for most dribbles completed, and most fouls won in a single World Cup. His "Hand of God" goal and the "Goal of the Century" against England cemented his status as a footballing icon.

"For me, it was the first World Cup I saw, which was 1986. To see Maradona play on TV, the way he played, and that one man can be so decisive was unbelievable," Otto Addo told FIFA.

"For me, he was the best I've ever seen, and that is why I really fell in love with football. I've had so many good memories, but this was one of the best."

The Black Stars will face Angola and Niger next month in their first two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
