We are aiming to collect a point on Saturday - Mwesigwa

The captain of the Uganda national team, Andrew Mwesigwa says the Cranes will aim to collect a point from Saturday’s 2015 African Nations Cup qualifying clash with Ghana’s Black Stars on Saturday in Kumasi.

Mwesigwa noted that his team’s strength is the players working together as one, adding that just like in 2003, when the Cranes held Ghana to a 1-1-1 draw in Kumasi, the team is aiming for a similar result.

“We don’t have big stars but we work together as a team so I think that is our strength. We have collected a point from here before and it will be the same come Saturday.”

Mwesigwa, who was sent off as Uganda lost 0-2 to Niger in a friendly match earlier this week, also noted that experimentation in that game did not go well, adding that the shortfalls would be worked on ahead of the game on Saturday.

“In a friendly game you always do experiments so we did experiments and they didn’t go well and so we are going to correct what went wrong and we will have a good game against Ghana.”

The Cranes’ captain warned that Uganda will compete with Ghana, noting that it is a competitive game and not a friendly game.

“We’ve come here to compete. It is a competitive game we are in a group and of course we have not come for a friendly game. We have come to play and get a result here.”
