We deserved to beat Ghana – Uganda Coach

Uganda coach Milutin Sredojevic believes his team deserved more than a draw in their opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Ghana on Saturday.

The Cranes managed to earn a point off the Black Stars after a 1-1 draw game in Kumasi on Saturday.

Uganda took a surprise lead through midfielder Tonny Mawejje just before halftime to stun the hosts who were playing before a relatively hostile home crowd.

The Ghanaian fans have deserted their team in protest of their poor showing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Coach Kwesi Appiah’s side however struck back six minutes into the restart through an Andre Ayew penalty after Majeed Waris was bundled over in the box.

The equalizer however failed to inspire the Black Stars to the much desired win as Uganda went on to hold their own to earn a draw against the hosts.

But coach Sredojevic believes his team’s impressive display deserved more that the draw they got.

“I am happy with the result but with what happened on the field of play I believe we deserved more than a draw,” he said after the game.

Uganda will now be returning home to face Guinea next week in high hopes after securing the draw against the Black Stars.
