Coach Abubakar Yusif has rued his sides wastefulness in front of goal, after the Northern select side lost 2:1 to Southern select side in a match to commemorate the renaming of the Tamale Sports Stadium.
Coach Yusif was selected alongside Charles Akonnor to handle the Northern and Southern select sides respectively ahead of the football match in honour of former Vice President of Ghana Alhaji Aliu Mahama during the ceremony to rename the Tamale Sports Stadium after the former Vice President.
According to Yusif, his side had a lot of chances in the game, but failed to convert them, adding that this caused their defeat.
“We did well, but squandered our chances and in football if you squander your chances you get punished, we outplayed them but needed to convert our chances into goals”. He stated.
The commemoration match, which had northern select side comprising players from Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Upper East, Upper West and Northern Region, with southern side comprising players from Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Central and Volta Regions, was a decision by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ghana Football Association in partnership with the Aliu Mahama Foundation to re-name the stadium after the late Vice President following his contribution to sports development in the country and Real Tamale United (RTU).
