Former Black Stars coach, James Kwasi Appiah has all of a sudden found his voice after being axed from the job and even now outlining problems that have caused Ghana's 38-year AFCON trophy drought.

The former Asante Kotoko players says that the nations lacks quality players that is why for about 38 years we have been trying in vain to win the elusive diadem.

According to Appiah the Ghana Football Association must make conscious efforst to harness and develop talents that will help the nation break its trophy hoodoo.

“We can’t just say we are going to win AFCON, we need to have a long term plan for our national teams and groom quality players before we can win the AFCON”, he told Atinka FM.

“For now we lack quality players to win the AFCON," he added.

Kwasi Appiah was the coach of the Black Stars at two AFCON tournaments in South Africa in 2013 and Egypt 2019.

Since last winning our fourth Afcon trophy in 1982 in Libya, Ghana has failed to lift the diadem getting close on three occasions in reaching the finals on 1992,2010,2015 and losing in all three finals.
