Asante Kotoko's draw against Medeama SC on Sunday, January 5, 2025, has left Prosper Narteh Ogum underwhelmed, with the coach believing that his team had done enough to secure a win.
Kwame Opoku’s goal in the 44th minute put Asante Kotoko in a strong position, especially as league leaders Hearts of Lions suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bechem United, giving Kotoko the chance to close the gap at the top.
However, Kamaradini Mamudu's 61st-minute equalizer meant Ogum and his team were only able to pick up a point from the game—a result that leaves them two points away from the top of the standings.
Speaking at the post-match conference, Ogum expressed his disappointment over his team’s failure to capitalise on their chances.
“I think we played well. We had more obvious goal-scoring opportunities, we contained them, especially in the first half, and in the second half, we tried to catch them on the counter, which we managed to do on a few occasions. If you ask me, we had more opportunities to score, and the result is not a true reflection of the game. At the very least, we should have won this game,” he said.
The result leaves Asante Kotoko in 6th place with 28 points from 16 games, two points behind leaders Hearts of Lions.
However, they will have a chance to make amends when they host newcomers Vision FC on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
