We will fight for victory over Ghana - German Coach

Hiroshima, Aug. 22, GNA - German Coach Maren Meinert says her charges will push for victory when they clash with Ghana’s Black Princesses in a second Group D meeting at the Ball Game Center in Hiroshima on Thursday.

Coach Meinert told GNA Sports in Hiroshima that Germany will be hoping to pick all three points at the expense of Ghana to aid their progress into the competition they last hosted in 2010.

“All the four teams in the group are very good. I don’t know much about the Ghana team but the knowledge we have of Nigeria who we previously played gives us an idea about the team.

“Naturally, we know African teams are very physical and we also know that this Ghana team has technique and are very good in that aspect. We will work very hard and fight them and wait for a result which I hope will be victorious.

“In football, you can never tell what will happen but my team wants to go far in the tournament. We respect Ghana and plan to give a very competitive game that hopefully can get as victory.”

While Ghana lost 0-4 in the group opener against the United States of America last Monday, Meinert insists the Princesses will not be downgraded despite the fact that the Germans also recorded a 4-0 win over China in their tournament opener.

Both teams meet for the first time at this stage. Ghana is housed in Group D alongside Germany, US and China.
