President of Ghana League Club Association, Kudjoe Fianoo is of the view that they will rate themselves 55 percent in this year’s President Cup competition.

Every year, GHALCA initiate this occasion and it is being graced by the President of the country but it came as a surprise to the spectators when the President of the country couldn’t show up at the occasion due to his accounting to the people tour. It is the first time the competition was played nationwide since the appointment of Kudjoe Fianoo as the President of GHALCA.

The main match was between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko and was played at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors won the match on penalties after the skipper of the side, Amos Frimpong converted the last penalty to ensure that the Kumasi based club lift the trophy in this year’s President Cup.

Speaking to Asempa Sports, he said, “I will rate ourselves 55 percent because the spectatorship aspect was not enough and was not pleasing and the President who was to do the presentations and grace the occasion was not able to come to the occasion but he was able to send representatives but all the same we could have done better because if the spectators were enough at the stadium, the euphoria could have changed.

“The challenges came but we were able to rectify them and get some funds from somewhere else. We didn’t rely much on the government because we are in election year and remember our former president Alhaji Raji is in court demanding some money in some previous competition that was being organized by GHALCA.

Quizzed if they did a better publicity for the competition, he said, “It was very obvious that the publicity was very low and it tells us that we need to do a better publicity and moving forward, what we will do is to sit down and get a date and fix it very early. People also thought that, both teams would have used their under-20 players because some of the teams played on Wednesday and Thursday but it was good but we still have a lot to do but I have to apologize to some of the venues that match couldn’t come on because we had an information that the Chief of Ahafo organized the match so we apologize for any lapses.

The Ghana Premier League is being run without a sponsorship and some clubs has threatened to quit if the FA does not get sponsorship for the clubs.

The GHALCA President was asked if the lack of Sponsorship in our league has affected the quality of our league. He said, “The lack of sponsorship in the league is a dark spot because in the past years we have had many sponsorships in the league so what we will do is to sit down with the FA and analyze why sponsors pull out from the league because I think it is not fair and the league does not deserve this.

“The league belong to the FA so if we as an individual body or the FA is able to secure the Sponsorship deal for the league, it is all good but one difficulty we are facing now is that some of the clubs are not helping us to market our sponsors because you go to some of the stadium’s and the sponsors brand are nowhere to be found and some are poorly laid at the stadiums so in all branding is a bit problem but we will sit and work all this out in other to help us secure a sponsorship deal.” He added.

He also confirmed that Ashgold have officially opened the doors for individual entities who can help build the club or someone who can buy the club officially.
