Head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah has pledged the commitment of the team to do their best in the game against Egypt on Sunday.

Ghana will host the seven-time African champions at the Cape Coast Stadium in their final round of qualifiers to the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be staged in Russia.

The Pharaohs have already booked the only slot available in Group E and will be hoping to continue their form against Ghana.

Kwesi Appiah will be using this encounter to assess his players ahead of the AFCON that will be hosted by Cameroon in 2019 but has reiterated that they will play their hearts out and will not let the country down on Sunday.

“We appreciate the support we have seen here in Cape Coast. This is our first time of playing a competitive game here.

“We will make sure we play our heart out on Sunday and I promise we will not let the nation down but we will still need your support going into the match,” he told Class Sports.

Meanwhile, Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan says they will show their competitiveness against Egypt despite the country’s inability to qualify for the tournament in Russia.

“We are here to win for the nation. Despite [that] we didn’t qualify for the World Cup, we are here to show we are more competitive. A win for us will boost our FIFA rankings and we have new players who are ready to prove themselves to Ghanaians that they are quality players,” he said.

He emphasised that they “are not taking this match for granted because we want to win for the nation and we want to win for ourselves”.

He further called on Ghanaian supporters to rally behind the team to ensure a win against the Pharoahs.

The Black Stars are expected to continue their training today at the Cape Coast Stadium at 3:30 pm local time as they step up preparation for the encounter.
