Weed smoking among Ghanaian footballers is nothing new - Louis Agyemang

Former Accra Hearts of Oak S.C striker, Louis Agyemang has disclosed that weed(marijuana) smoking among Ghanaian footballers is nothing new.

Coach J.E Sarpong had alleged that the majority of Ghanaian players smoke marijuana, popularly known as weed, and went on to give instances where he helped get weed for a top player of one of his former clubs ahead of a big game.

Aduana Stars FC striker Yahaya Mohammed was unhappy with the former Asante Kotoko technical man's recent revelations but Louis Agyemang who has featured in the Ghana Premier League before said the act is nothing new.

"Weed smoking among Ghanaian footballers is nothing new. Even some colts footballers smoke before playing, so Premier League footballers smoking in Ghana is no news. It didn’t start today. We just have to be honest with ourselves and take measures to end it," the former Étoile du Sahel striker told Angel TV.

"When I was in Ghana, I witnessed many footballers doing it but when I went to South Africa, I realized that at the end of every game, they’ll invite one or two players and test their [blood and urine] samples.

"It is because we don’t test in Ghana that’s why most of the players feel free to smoke. I can say it is one of the reasons some players cannot excel when they travel outside Ghana."

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association has suspended all its football competitions since mid-March due to coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League was at its match week 15 stage when it was halted with Aduana Stars FC leading the table with 28 points.
