West African Orphanages Games slated for Kumasi

Orphanages International Ministry (OIM) at the weekend held a fund-raising rally in aid of the First West African Orphanages Olympic Games to be held from August 26, 2003 in Kumasi.

Addressing the rally, the President of OIM, the Reverend Samuel Ludwig Aferi said it would cost about 60 million cedis to organise the games in which about 1,000 orphans were expected to participate.

Rev. Aferi, therefore, appealed to churches; sympathizers and corporate bodies to assist them achieve their target and added that they could collect pledge forms from the OIM Secretariat at the Kokomlemle.

The Director of Human Resources for CAL Merchant Bank, Mr Robert Quaye, who chaired the function, attended by orphanages from Tema, Frafraha, Osu and Kumasi, donated a cheque of two million cedis towards the games.

An appeal for fund yielded 6.1 million cedis. The Teshie Central Gospel Band provided music.
