In the wake of Ghana’s defeat and draw with Angola and Niger respectively in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, ace sports journalist Saddick Adams, alias Sports Obama, has made an interesting revelation about what could be termed a prophecy by former Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour.

According to Obama, the ex-Bayern Munich defender, after a careful study of the trajectory of Ghana football, warned him of a time when the Black Stars would struggle to even qualify for the AFCON.

Sports Obama claims that Sammy Kuffour noticed that Ghana football had been on a downward curve with little being done to address the teething problems.

“Sammy Kuffour once said something to me and it has stuck with me. He once said that with the way things are going with our national teams, we may not be able to qualify for the AFCON if we didn’t change some things. I agree with him and the time is near,” he said on Angel FM.

Saddick Adams said that he is bringing up the conversation because he fears Ghana’s recent record of having qualified for every edition of the AFCON since 2006 is on the cusp of being broken.

Following the results from the last two matches, Sports Obama is dreading the worst as he believes that all indications point to the prediction made by Sammy Kuffour.

Obama observed that Ghana’s performance chart relative to the AFCON presents a damning picture that must make every Ghanaian concerned.

“We used to win the AFCON and then we came down to a point where we were struggling to make the finals. From 2010 onwards, our least was the semi-final and we dropped to the quarter-final. We came down further to the round of sixteen and then group stage exits. We are currently at the level where we might not be able to qualify for the AFCON,” he said.

After a shocking home defeat to Angola on September 5, the Black Stars drew 1-1 with Niger in Morocco on Monday, September 9, 2024.
