Why Danny Welbeck chose England over Ghana

Footy-ghana.com understands that Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck chose to play for England over Ghana because Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expressed his disquiet over the possibility of losing him for six weeks during the African Nations Cup.

According to well-placed footy-ghana.com sources, the legendary manager is reported to have told Welbeck that if he wanted to play regularly for Manchester United, he had to choose England instead of Ghana in order to preserve availability.

Footy-ghana.com can further reveal that had officials of the Ghana Football Association approached Ferguson and offered not to use him during the African Nations Cup, he might have had a change of heart and advised Welbeck to choose Ghana.

Welbeck, whose full name is Daniel Nii Tackie Mensah, has scored 9 goals in all competitions for Manchester United this season.
