Why I left Dundee United - Matthew Cudjoe explains 'surprising' decision

Ghanaian youngster, Matthew Anim Cudjoe, has attributed the lack of playing time at Dundee United as the reason for leaving the Scottish league.

Cudjoe joined Dundee United in 2021 but had to wait for 6 months to make his debut for the club.

Just as he was finding his rhythm at the club, Cudjoe was relegated to the bench. The Ghanaian scored three goals and provided two assists in the 7 starts he made for the club.

Although the Scottish club decided to offer him a contract extension, Cudjoe turned down the offer on three occasions, stating that he wants to explore opportunities elsewhere.

"They gave me the first contract when we started the season, but I didn't accept it. They gave me a second contract, and when the season ended, they offered me another contract, which I didn't accept," Cudjoe told 3Sports.

He added, "Dundee United have been good to me, and I really appreciated it. Sometimes in football, you have to move forward to another team to experience how football is. I talked to my dad, and we made a decision."

Currently in search of a new club, the 20-year-old says, "I want to go somewhere to play games and enjoy football; that's what is important. I want to show people what I can do."
